More than 3,000 people gathered today on the chiefly island of Bau to witness the installation of the Roko Tui Bau Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua.
This is the first time an installation of the high chief of Bau has taken place inside the Church.
Tavanavanua said during the installation that this is a new beginning for Bau.
An emotional moment was also witnessed as Ratu Timoci kneeled down with a lot of emotions when the choir was singing the worship song.
Ratu Timoci then washed the other elders foot as a sign of forgiveness that signified a new beginning.
The traditional ceremony took place later whereby Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama was dressed in a traditional masi attire and gave his blessings to Tavanavanua.
Bainimarama told Tavanavanua that the people of Fiji have faith in him and his leadership.
The Roko Tui Bau will rule the Yavusa Ratu which consists of different villages in Tailevu and Lomaiviti.
