The Fijian Teachers Association has raised serious concerns about the creation of some new posts at the Fiji Institute of Technology and the qualification now needed to become a Head of Department.
Union General Secretary Maika Namudu told Fijivillage that some of its members who are senior lecturers and have been teaching at the Institution for a number of years are deeply concerned that their dream to become head of department may not be fulfilled after directive by the newly appointed Director that only people with a PhD will be appointed to the posts of HOD's.
Namudu said this is a new criteria and despite numerous letters written to FIT, they are yet to receive a reply. Namudu has warned that they will take drastic action if FIT goes ahead with their plan.
When contacted this morning, FIT Director Dr.Ganesh Chand said that he will give an interview next Monday as he is very busy whole of this week.
