There will now be strict laws in place dealing with the sale, storage, use and disposal of Pesticides after Cabinet approved the Pesticides Decree 2010.
This follows a submission from the Minister for Primary Industries, Joketani Cokanasiga who said the Decree replaces the Pesticides Act and Regulations of 1971.
Cokanasiga stressed that the proposed Decree will mean strict measures in place for retailers.
The Decree will also have a section dealing with the rules and regulations governing the duties of the Pesticide Board and Inspectors as well as the duties of employers whose employees are required or permitted to use pesticides in the course of their work.
The Decree will be gazetted once the Solicitor General has a read through the draft.
