The National Fire Authority is taking steps to overcome problems faced in putting out fires in places where there are no fire hydrants.

The authority's Chief Fire Officer Mark Reid said they have come up with three strategies which will see a better fire service provided to people.

Reid said they will also get long and large diameter hoses through which water can be pumped from rivers, streams, the sea or any other source.

He said they had recently bought one hose and were planning to get another one soon.

Fire investigators are looking into the fire which completely destroyed a house in Davuilevu Housing this morning.
