The Acting Director of Public Prosecutions has welcomed the new Domestic Violence Decree.

John Rabuku said the new decree is the dawning of a new day, not only for women but for other vulnerable citizens of Fiji.

Rabuku said for long, domestic violence has been tolerated in the communities.

He said even the educated or the sensitized wondered whether domestic violence was really just a part of what is like to grow up in the pacific.

Rabuku added that some Pacific women have accepted this violence which has become a regular occurrence with no brighter day.

However, he said the new Decree will be the legislation to address these forms of abuse and ensure the immediate protection of women and others from violence within their very homes.
