The Vodafone Fiji Under 17 football side has lost all chances of booking a spot at the OFC Under 17 Championship semi-finals after they were thumped by New Caledonia 5 - 1 yesterday.

Fiji’s only goal in the match came from Simeli Batiratu who used a long free kick in the 12th minute to make a header close to the goal giving them the lead.

New Caledonia struck the equalizer in the 29th minute to level the scores at 1 all.

Fiji could not pull back after New Caledonia scored 2 more goals in the first half to give them a 3-1 lead at the break.

Several goal attempts made by impact replacement Amena Bolaitamana in the second spell were unsuccessful as  New Caledonia scored two more convincing goals giving them the victory.

The Vodafone Fiji soccer team has failed to claim a victory after they drew nil all against Papua New Guinea in their second match and were also thumped by New Zealand 6-0 in their first match.

Fiji has two pool matches remaining against Cook Islands on Monday and Samoa on Tuesday.

The winner of the OFC Under 17 Championship  will qualify for the FIFA Under 17 World Cup.
