A new Border Police Unit has been set up to tackle serious criminal activities in the country.

While opening the Border Police Unit Command Centre at the Nadi Airport this morning, Minister for Defense, Ratu Epeli Ganilau said that the call to expand the roles of police to the duty of manning Fiji's boarders comes after much deliberate thinking and choices over factual International crime issues that involves Fiji and other islands.

Ganilau highlighted that Police has also recognized the need to address Fraud, Prostitution, Money Laundering and People Trafficking and manning our border means that they will have information about suspicious transactions and those who are behind these illegal activities.
