Netball Fiji retains gold
The Unaisi Rokoura coached side had to dig deep to beat the PNG girls who were eyeing an upset win.
Despite the internal turmoil within Netball Fiji regarding former coach Melisa Walker, Coach Unaisi Rokoura said it did not affect the side in returning home with a gold medal.
Meanwhile the athletics team maintained their dominance in the track events after winning gold medal in the 4 by 100 metre relay in the men and womens event.
The mens 4 by 100 meter relay team of Niko Verekauta, Banuve Tabakaucoro, Mataiasi Savou and Tevita Nalovo clocked a time of 41.20 seconds to win gold.
The girls team led by Sprint Queen Makelesi Bulikiobo stop the watch on 47. 63 seconds.
Verekauta and Bulikiobo completed their mission of winning 5 gold medal each when they were part of the 4 by 400 metre relay team that won gold in the last event this afternoon.
The mens 4 by 400 metre relay team won in a time of 3 min and 20 seconds while the women side came home first in 3 min and 56 seconds.
Also Jone Wainiqolo won gold in the mens 400m hurdles while Anameli Navukitu won the women 400m hurdles.
Fiji now leads the medal tally 19 gold, 13 silver and 12 bronze, Tahiti is in second place with 15 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze.
New Caledonia is 3rd with 11 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze.
