The Newly appointed President of the South Pacific Engineers Association said necessary steps need to be taken to improve engineering standards in the Pacific.
Tom Tinai of Samoa who was today chosen as the President of the Association said with the formation of this new association they will be able to address some pressing issues in the Pacific.
The President of Fiji, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau who officially launched the South Pacific Engineers Association yesterday also stressed that Pacific Island countries cannot train all the people needed, and have to rely on those trained by other countries.
Ratu Epeli stated that to add to the complication we are vulnerable and subject to headhunting and therefore, we struggle to retain our skilled people against the pull to more lucrative offers from developed or prosperous countries.
