Navy Commander Francis Kean will be sentenced by the Suva High Court this hour.
Kean pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter before Judge Justice Gerard Winter last week after the DPP reduced his murder charge to manslaughter.
Kean assaulted John Whippy at the Royal Suva Yacht Club on New Year's eve, which led to his death.
Kean is represented by Lautoka lawyer Haroon Ali Shah while Ashishna Prasad is representing the state.
