It's a historic day for the people of Navuso , the chiefly village of Naitasiri high chief, the Qaranivalu after the opening of the Navuso bridge which runs across the Waimanu River.
While officially opening the bridge today, Vice President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau stressed that today symbolizes the growing cordial relationship and commitment between China and Fiji.
He said Fiji today stands at a cross roads where we need to make hard decisions as a people on how we will proceed into the next decade. He stressed that our commitments today will chart and mark how Fiji will evolve tomorrow.
He said for the people of Navuso and surrounding areas, they will now be able to actively take up commercial farming and not only supplement their own family meals but also contribute to the economy through increased agricultural or value added agro exports.
The new sixteen million dollar Navuso bridge is funded by the Chinese government. The construction of roads leading to the bridge has been funded by government and over 250,000 dollars has been spent on it.
Meanwhile, the Qaranivalu, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata thanked the Chinese government for their financial assistance after the agreement was reached in 2004.
Ratu Inoke said the province of Naitasiri has over the years seen a number of major developments, such as the Monasavu hydro plant, Vunidawa hospital, construction of the road to Naqali and today the opening of the new Navuso Bridge.
He said the opening of the Navuso bridge symbolises Unity of the people of Fiji with the rest of the world.
Vice President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau officially opened the bridge today.
