An early warning system of flooding was given to Navua town during the opening of National Disaster Awareness week earlier this week.
National Disaster Management Officer, Pajiliai Dumbui said this early flood warning system will give ample time to the Navua residents to prepare themselves before a flood reaches the town.
The system will deliver automatic warnings to emergency agencies, the media and the general public whenever critical flood levels are reached.
Previously there was only one gauge which provided warnings 15 minutes before a flood reached the town.
The Interim Prime Minister received the equipment given by SOPAC and the European Union at the opening of the National Disaster week.
