The National Fire Authority has warned people that their houses can be in a potentially dangerous situation if their LPG gas connections are loose or if the pipe work is damaged.

Chief Fire Officer Mark Reid's warning comes after a damaging fire in Narere last night, which left one person injured and a family of seven homeless.

Reid said they believe the fire was caused by a leaking gas connection on the families cooking stove.

Reid said people can use several methods to check if their gas connection is loose.
