The Fiji Dental Association is calling on the Health Ministry to remove non-fluoridated toothpaste from the market.

President Doctor Vikash Singh said that they are negotiating with various stakeholders including the government and industry partners to seek avenues to decrease the cost of oral hygiene products currently sold in shops and supermarkets to make it readily available to everybody in the country.

Dr Singh said the Association has also urged the government to impose higher tariffs and duties on food and drinks that are detrimental to oral health with very less nutritional value.

He said some countries have banned high sugar containing drinks from school canteens and cannot see why Fiji cannot do the same.
