The official commencement of the National Stadium upgrade was made today with the promise that Fiji will host some international tournaments in the near future.

The Fiji Sports Council has secured a commercial loan of $15 million from ANZ guaranteed with a grant of $3 million annually for the next five years by the Government.

Part of the upgrade will include the extension of the main grandstand with seating around the ground.

Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama says upon completion Buckhurst and Bidesi Park will also include three playing grounds, all new changing rooms, a small stadium and a 100 metres artificial training track.
 

Fiji Sports Council CEO, Litiana Loabuka confirms sporting federations in Fiji have already started work in trying to bring international tournaments to Fiji.


The upgrade will include facilities required to host international facilities such as the changing rooms, masseurs’ area, coach=s room, players lounge, referees room and a media room.

The upgrade will cost $17.5 million.
