The National Council of Women Fiji has thrown its support behind the Fiji Nursing Association in raising the genuine concerns of nurses who are planning to go on strike on July 24th.
NCW Fiji said the nurses have a long standing plight about appropriate remuneration for the long hours they work. It said the 5% pay cut is putting a lot of strain on the nurses who are working longer hours to support their families.
According to NCW Fiji, it is also concerned with the Fiji Nursing Association’s finding that a large number of nurses are now suffering from stress related sicknesses and complications.
It is calling on the interim government to listen to the nurses and plight and try resolving the matter in an amicable way which benefits both the nurses and the country.
The FNA rejected the interim government proposal for the restoration of 1 percent of the 5 percent pay cut by December and remain on the strike path.
