The National Census is now set to take place from the 16th of September after a lapse of almost 11 years.
Speaking at the 2007 Population and Housing Census Media Launch, the postponement according to Census Commissioner, Timoci Bainimarama, was because of the delay in financial assistance.
He said the Commission is now ready to begin.
To conduct the census this September, the interim administration has allocated $5 million dollars for the Census while the UNFPA has given 0.2 million dollars in technical and financial assistance.
According to Director Census, Epeli Waqavonovono, the original amount budgeted for the Census was $6 million dollars, but this was reduced to $5 million, with the Commission seeking further financial assistance from other AID Donors.
The National Census will begin on the 16th of September and end on the 16th of October this year.
