Apisai Dokonibonu has raised his hand as a top gold medal contender for the intermediate boy’s 100 metres in next month’s Coca-Cola Games.

This comes after the Nasinu Secondary School student clocked a manual time of 10.44 seconds in his heat at the Suva Zone One athletics meet which is currently underway at the ANZ Stadium.

Dokanibonu also set a new record after slashing Zainal Haroon’s time of 10.92 seconds set in 2005 when he ran for Suva Muslim College.

Dokonibonu will have stiff competition in the final against International School Suva speedster Jacob Waqanivalu.

The subjunior girl’s and boy’s 400 metres records were also broken by Sakeo Luvunakoro of Dudley High School and Vaviola Turagabuli of Cathedral.

Looking at the medal tally so far, Nasinu Secondary school is leading the boy’s division with 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze followed by Namosi Secondary with 2 gold and John Wesley College is third with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

In the girl’s division, Cathedral Secondary is leading with 1 gold and 2 bronze, Wainimakutu Secondary is second with 1 gold and Ballantine Memorial School has 2 silver.
