Nasinu Mayor Suspended
In a press conference, Kumar's Lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry confirmed that they had received the letter and would be taking legal action against the Interim Local Government minister, Filipe Bole as he has gone against the Local Government Act which states that Kumar be given time to prove his innocence to the Minister and that there was no evidence to substantiate FICAC's claims of abuse of office.
The letter addressed to Kumar from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Ram Chandar advised Kumar to vacate his office pending the result of his court case in Feburary next year.
Meanwhile, early this morning the Deputy Mayor, Dhirend Sardar and Kumar were forced to vacate their office after the Town Clerk, Satish Kumar brought Police Officers to remove the two.
Councillor Kumar has been charged with two counts of alleged abuse of office and embezzlement by FICAC and was released on bail by the Suva Magistrates Court on $2000 bail last Friday.
Interim Minister for Local Government Filipe Bole is yet to comment.
