Nasinu Mayor Councilor Rajeshwar Kumar has been charged with two counts of alleged abuse of office and embezzlement and is currently in custody at the Central Police station.
Kumar's lawyer, Rajendra Chaudhry has confirmed that Kumar was charged at around 9 o'clock last night and was remanded in custody overnight.
He will appear in the Suva Magistrates court today.
The former Accountant of Nasinu town council is also facing similar charges.
Kumar was arrested yesterday morning when he was preparing to attend the last NCBBF meeting.
FICAC officers questioned him whole of yesterday and charges were laid last night.
