An application for leave to judicially review the decision of the Minister for Local Government to suspend the Nasinu Mayor was heard in the Suva High Court today.

State Lawyer, Christopher Pryde requested 21 days to respond to the Nasinu Mayor's affidavit. He also asked for a separate hearing on the leave and stay application.

Pryde said in Court that serious issues were involved and it was important that the matter not be rushed in order to do justice to all sides.

Pryde also told Court that statements made by counsel representing the Nasinu Mayor on public television insulting his clients were totally unacceptable and it was unprofessional behaviour.

A hearing on the leave and stay application has been set down for January 20th next year.

Interim Local Government Minister, Filipe Bole last week suspended Rajeshwar Kumar as Nasinu Mayor pending the outcome of this Court case.
