The suspended Nasinu Mayor Rajeshwar Kumar today applied for leave to seek the court's permission to appeal the Interim Local Government Minister's decision to suspend him.
Kumar's lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry said Kumar still remains in his mayoral position and they are now waiting for the high court to decide on the matter.
Kumar was suspended by the Interim Minister for Local Government yesterday morning pending the outcome of his court case.
Councillor Kumar has been charged with two counts of alleged abuse of office and embezzlement by FICAC and was released on bail by the Suva Magistrates Court on $2000 bail last Friday.
