Nasinu Man Charged With Murder
Police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed that the man was charged after fresh evidence came up against him.
Police initially charged two fishermen with the alleged murder, however, charges against them were dropped when evidence came up against the suspect.
Police admitted that they wrongly charged the two who were cleared this year. The two were also remanded for some time in custody and in the Suva Prison.
It is alleged that the suspect hit the 16-year-old deceased on his head more than three times with an oar, instantly killing him.
He then allegedly left the body in the Laqere River, which was later found floating by members of the public.
The post mortem report stated that the 16-year-old boy died after being hit on the head with a blunt object.
Police then wrongly charged the two fishermen, who were out fishing that day. The man will appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
