Labasa has a new Mayor who comes from the Fiji Labour Party but he is definitely not the choice of the FLP Leader as it is alleged that Mahendra Chaudhry was stopping him from contesting the election last night.
Nevertheless businessman, Shivlal Nagindas still went ahead and was last night elected as the mayor of Labasa.
Nagindas a labour councillor was elected after his name was picked from a hat by the town clerk as he and another councillor were tied at 6 votes each.
Councillor Paulini Waqanibolo was elected the Deputy Mayor.
Nagindas claims Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry tried to intervene in the mayoral election to stop him from contesting the post. We will have more in the next hour.
