Fiji’s rugby champion side, Nadroga will now defend the Farebrother Sullivan Cup at their home ground, Lawaqa Park.

This is after a successful meeting where the Fiji Rugby Union gave up its share of takings to the participating teams.

After a meeting with the FRU and the Sports Council today, Nadroga rugby spokesperson, Tiko Matawalu said the Fiji Rugby Union has decided that it will not take the 20 percent of the remaining takings after the Sports Council’s charges.

Matawalu said the Fiji Sports Council has also confirmed that they will only take the 25 percent of the total gate takings compared to the past where the council was taking more.

Suva, Northland, Lautoka and Nadi had joined Nadroga in their submission to the FRU and the Sports Council.

Lautoka rugby union secretary Salesi Vulakoro said they are thankful that Nadroga stood up for others while Nadi coach Iliesa Tanivula said at the end of the day it’s the players welfare that matters the most.

Tanivula added most of the players are unemployed and if unions receive less, then the players will take home less as well.

The Northland rugby union had a meeting earlier this week and agreed to the proposals by Nadroga.
