The Nadroga Rugby Union is still awaiting a reply from the Fiji Rugby Union in relation to their proposal.

Spokesperson Tiko Matawalu said FRU has sent them a confirmation that they a looking into Nadroga’s proposal.

Matawalu added one of their main concerns is the percentage cut for the Digicel Cup and Farebrother Sullivan trophy challenges.

In the Digicel Cup the percentage cut from the gate takings is 25% to the Fiji Sports Council and 75% to the FRU.

Fiji Rugby Union’s 75% cut is then divided among the two participating teams which Nadroga rugby believes is still not enough.

In the Farebrother challenge format, the Cup holder gets 50% of the gate takings, 30% goes to the challenger and 20% to FRU.

This was the system when they used to have a sponsor, but, the percentage cut is still the same now without a sponsor for the Farebrother challenge.

With the sponsorship of the Farebrother, the teams were receiving money for their preparations.

Tiko Matawalu said if Nadroga is struggling financially, they understand what the other teams are going through.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Rugby Union has come out and defended their percentage cut in the domestic competitions especially the Digicel cup and Farebrother challenges.

FRU Chief Executive Officer Manasa Baravilala said they have no reason to reduce their cut since it’s not enough.
