Good news for the Nadi people, as the Nadi river is expected to see a further 360,000 cubic meters of dredge soil being removed beginning from Moala village moving inland.

Director Land, Water and Resource Management, Lakshman Mudaliar said that the actual dredging process involves the excavation of material, its deposition and management at designated sites which involves specialised equipment.

Mudaliar said the dredging works aims to improve the flow capacity of Nadi River due to heavy sedimentations as it is frequently flooded.

Meanwhile a dredging company called Hall Contracting Fiji Limited has been awarded the contract by the Ministry of Primary Industries.

This second phase dredging will cost the Government $3.7 million which expects to start soon.
