The Lautoka High Court today sentenced a 26 year old man charged with rape to 12 years imprisonment for raping his neighbour.

The man had raped his neighbour in June 2008 while under the influence of liquor.

Judge Justice Paul Madigan while sentencing the man stated that the man raped the woman in front of her children, assaulting her at the same time with a knife, causing injuries.

He said the man showed little or no remorse for the offence.

Justice Madigan started the sentence with ten years adding another 5 years to it but reduced it to 12 taking into account the man pleaded guilty to the crime, saving the victim the horror of re-living the ordeal.
