Nadi immigration officer charged
The court heard that between 2007 to 2008, Naibuka Vuli facilitated detainees at a private property that he was renting at Cawa place in Nadi and had taken the proceeds of accommodating the illegal immigrants and kept it for himself.
In 2006, a contract was signed to house the detainees at Cawa place but was terminated two month later by Public Service Commission.
Vuli had abused his authority by detaining the illegal immigrants without the approval of PSC.
He was granted bail with strict bail conditions and ordered not to travel to overseas and to surrender all his travel documents, he is to report to FICAC office in Suva on Wednesday and Saturday as he has been transfered to Suva for work.
Meanwhile, a Pakistani national charged with one count of bribery was today granted bail by Nadi Magistrate court.
Furquan Rizvi, a businessman allegedly paid an Lautoka customs officer to overlook consignments in a shipping container.
He was ordered to surrender all his travel documents, to report Nadi Police Station twice a week and not to tamper with the shipping container.
The case has been adjourned till 27th August.
