The Nadi Weather office has called on people living in the Western and Southern parts of the country, to prepare themselves for flash flooding and strong winds, as the indirect effect of Tropical cyclone Funa is expected to be felt from later today.

Tropical Cyclone Funa is currently located at about 1,065 kilometers West North West of Nadi and is now moving East at 11 knots.

Tropical Cyclone Funa is expected to curve East and then South East in the next 24 hours. Funa is a category 2 Tropical cyclone with damaging gale force winds of 95 km/h and momentary gusts to 130 km/h close to its centre but should intensify into a Hurricane, attaining destructive storm force winds within 12 to 18 hours.

A strong wind warning remains in force for Southern and Western parts of the country including Southwestern Viti Levu, Kadavu, Vatulele, Beqa and nearby small islands from tomorrow.

A flash flood warning is also in force for the low lying areas of Viti Levu as the trough of low pressure is still over the group and is expected to bring continuous heavy rain.
