Nadarivatu Secondary wins first gold
The Silver medal went to Kinisimere Leitabu of Wainimakutu Secondary, and Bronze medal went to Filomena Tikoicawaci of Holy Cross College in Taveuni.
This was an upset as Noela Taqai of Suva Grammar School was the favourite to win Gold. The Open Boys 1,500m is currently underway.
The first field event, the Intermediate boys javelin which sees 22 competitors aiming to break the record set by Lautoka Andhrya's Varayame Momo, who threw a distance of 54.08mtrs in 2004.
On Day one, 43 gold medal are at stake, 23 in the track events and 20 in the field events.
In total 16 Zones, 135 School and more than 2600 athletes will be at the TFL Stadium this morning as the 2009 Coca-Cola Games gets underway this hour in the biggest sporting event in Fiji and the World's Biggest Schools Athletics Sports Meet.
