Nacuva Interfering With Judiciary Independence
These are the words of Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum referring to ousted Speaker of the House of Representatives Pita Nacuva calling for a hurried decision by the courts on the dissolving of parliament.
Nacuva has come out publically and said that he is still the legally appointed Speaker and is calling on President Ratu Josefa Iloilo to recall parliament.
He said he has requested for an audience with the President for some time and it is now time for him to publically say that the only thing right under the constitution is to recall parliament.
And as the draft People's Charter is about to be made public, Nacuva said any constitutional and electoral changes need parliamentary approval stressing there is no other way.
Nacuva said he has also written to Interim Prime Minister Commodore Bainimarama seeking an audience with him. However he has received no reply.
