An agreement has been signed by the New Zealand government and the University of the South Pacific (USP) confirming New Zealand's contribution of $2.6M to USP's core budget for 2008 and 2009 and to support selected projects mutually agreed to between NZAID and USP.

Pacific Regional Manager NZAID office, Dimitri Geidelberg and USP's Acting Vice Chancellor Esther Williams, have signed the agreement, where New Zealand also confirmed support in 2008 and 2009 for the USP's Pacific Law II project, which makes available online legal judgements from Pacific countries.

Acting New Zealand High Commission Caroline McDonald said New Zealand has always lended its support to USP especially since it is the region's key institution of higher learning and so plays a vital role in providing the knowledge and skills needed for its member countries to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
