New Zealand's hopes of defending the Rugby League World Cup now weighs heavily on the shoulders of Shaun Johnson, Kieran Foran and Issac Luke.

There is no adequate cover for either of these three players in the squad, despite them playing in vital positions in the halves and hooker.

Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney gambled on using Thomas Leu’ua as his back up for these three players, but Leu’ua has been ruled out of the tournament because of a sore groin.

In RLWC quarterfinals, New Zealand will meet Scotland at 9am this Saturday followed by Australia taking on the USA at 2am Sunday While the Vodafone Fiji Bati and England will await for the results of the match between Samoa and France which kicks off at 9am tomorrow.
