New Zealand captain Ryan Nelsen has been named world player of the week by an international football website, for his outstanding performances in South Africa.

Chosen by goal.com's editorial team, the award goes to the player deserving recognition for achieving something special.

Nelsen was voted the winner on the opening week of the 2010 World Cup for ''inspiring his side to two draws against Slovakia and world champions Italy.
