The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum has promised to cooperate should New Zealand police wish to extradite the husband of a Fiji born woman whose body was found by the New Zealand police last week.

Sayed Khaiyum said an extradition agreement between the two countries would be honored if police here choose to make an application to extradite Divesh Sharma to New Zealand.

Fiji police is expected to announce today whether they will lodge a request for extradition with Crown Law and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, A team of New Zealand police is in the country as part of a homicide inquiry into the death of 28 year old Ranjeeta Sharma of South Auckland who was burnt alive on a Waikato roadside.

Ranjeeta was found burned to death near Huntly in Waikato last Thursday and her husband, Divesh Kumar Sharma is in police custody here in Fiji after flying out of New Zealand the day after his wife's body was discovered.

TV NZ reports Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall saying that they are concentrating on talking to the woman's husband and establishing ongoing care and protection of the couple's child.

Sergeant Keall said that they will be looking at assisting with the assessment and advice on the care and protection of the child and working with the New Zealand High Commission in Fiji who are liaising with relevant authorities here.

He said the other focus of the team will be speaking to the boy's father and it is  still too early to tell what processes will be undertaken once the investigation team has spoken to him.

He said any return of Devesh Sharma to New Zealand, will be dictated by process. He said the New Zealand Police team has received the full cooperation of not only the Fijian authorities but a number of other New Zealand government agencies and members of the public.

Divesh Sharma also known as Daniel was caught in hiding with his son in Rakiraki yesterday.

It is believed he was arrested after a tipoff.

The 4 year old child is now staying with relatives and is said to be in good health.
