The New Zealand government said it has no involvement in high level talks between Fiji's Interim regime and New Zealand's former Governor-General Sir Paul Reeves.

Newstalk ZB reports a spokesperson from the office of Foreign Minister Winston Peters office as saying that New Zealand has no formal capacity or involvement in sending Sir Paul to Fiji. According to the spokesperson Reeves is acting on behalf of the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Sir Paul Reeves who helped design the 1997 constitution came to Fiji on the government's invitation to explore options to have a greater level of dialogue in the National Council for Building a Better Fiji.

The Interim Prime Minister's Office has confirmed that that the main purpose for Reeves's visit was to try and find out whether people can sit down together and discuss ways to move the country forward, through the new National Council.

Meanwhile, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark had earlier described the People's Charter as a distraction.
