The New Zealand government is still keeping mum on the Fiji government nominating Information Permanent Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni to be a Counsellor at the Fiji High Commission in Wellington.

The New Zealand Herald reports that the office of the New Zealand's Foreign Minister Murray McCully is refusing to comment on the matter in line with its policy - not to pre-empt diplomatic appointments.

A spokesperson at the Office said that they do not comment on these appointments and consider it confidential until such point as the agreement is being signed off.

Meanwhile, the Land Force Commander, Brigadier Pita Driti commented yesterday that the Fiji government is testing the NZ government on whether it is genuine in having dialogue and assisting Fiji.

Driti said Leweni's nomination is a test to see whether NZ will accept him to be Counsellor at the Fiji High Commission in Wellington.
