New Zealand were given one hell of a fright, before edging pass a determined France 23-13 at Eden Park last night.

In the first game between these sides since the 2011 Rugby World Cup Final at the same venue, the All Blacks outscored their visitors two tries to one but were pushed all the way by a French side.

Captain Kieran Read said he is happy with the side even though they committed a lot of mistakes.

The second test kicks off next Saturday at 7.35pm in Christchurch.

In other international tests, Samoa claimed a historic win beating Scotland 27-17, Japan lost 18-22 to Wales, South Africa hammered Italy 44-10 and England beat Argentina 32-3.
