The New Zealand Rugby Union has confirmed it will trial six point tries and two point conversions in next year's Mitre 10 Cup.

North Harbour coach Steve Jackson says it should mean more attacking rugby.

Jackson adds that they are hoping teams will go out and show more attacking flair, and try for tries instead of taking penalty goals and drop kicks.

The domestic provincial competition will also use two referees.

The trial is still subject to World Rugby approval.
