The International Rugby Board has clarified that the IRB Pacific Nations Cup encounter between the Flying Fijians and New Zealand Maori will not be eligible for the change in rankings for Fiji.

A statement earlier released by the IRB stated that ninth ranked Fiji could climb to eighth place, if they beat New Zealand Maori on Saturday but that's if Australia beats Ireland tomorrow evening in Melbourne.

But, the IRB have now stated that there won't be any change even if Fiji wins tomorrow, because the New Zealand Maori are not a test side.

Meanwhile, South Africa's position as the number one side in the IRB World Rankings is under threat again, with New Zealand in line to return to top spot if Wales defeats the world champions in Pretoria on Sunday.

However, were South Africa to lose to Wales in the second test, then New Zealand would replace them on top of the rankings on Tuesday, provided the All Blacks overcome England at Eden Park tomorrow night.
