The New Zealand Indians Hockey side has for the first time ever travelled outside their country to compete in a major championship.

The side with bulk of players from India arrived in the country on Wednesday evening to compete in the Oceania Pacific Cup Hockey championship, which starts this afternoon in Suva.

Team captain Sandeep Puna says they are well prepared for the championship and their chances of winning the men's division title also looks good.

The games will be played on a round-robin format with the opening matches starting from 1pm today. The Oceania Pacific Hockey Cup semifinal playoffs will be held next Tuesday and the medal playoff and final is scheduled for next Wednesday at the National Hockey Turf in Laucala.
