Last year's Dubai 7s finalists, New Zealand and Digicel Fiji 7s teams are both eyeing a win in the opening leg of the IRB 7s series this weekend to put them on the right track for the World Cup at the same venue next year.
Fiji 7s coach Waisale Serevi said a win in the Dubai 7s on Sunday morning is important for his side as this will boost their preparation to defend the Melrose Cup next year.
Serevi added they will need a good start on Friday night against USA.
Also New Zealand Captain DJ Forbes believes his side will need to start well in defending the Dubai 7s title.
New Zealand is in Pool A in the Dubai 7s with Wales, Zimbabwe and Australia while Fiji is in Pool D with USA, England and Portugal.
The Waisale Serevi coached side's opening pool game is on Friday at 7.42pm against USA.
