The New Zealand 7s annual rugby street parade is underway ahead of this weekend’s tournament.

Thousands of people have filled up the main streets of Wellington to get a glimpse of the 16 teams.

Speaking from Wellington this morning, Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan said the players are excited to play the first game against Portugal before setting their focus on Wales and Australia.

The tournament has become the city’s largest sporting event since 2000 and contributes more than $6 million to the local economy each year.

The New Zealand 7s kicks off tomorrow with Fiji taking on Portugal at 12.03pm, face Wales at 2.58pm before taking on Australia at 5.54pm in their last pool game.

The Cup quarterfinals will start at 12.28pm Saturday, the Cup semifinals will be at 4.12pm while the Cup final kicks off at 7.55pm Saturday.
