The Gordon Tietgens coached New Zealand 7s team has not won the tournament in San Diego for the past two years and are aiming to turn the tables this weekend.
Speaking to Village sports, New Zealand captain DJ Forbes said that winning the last three tournaments this year has built a lot of confidence in his boys.
Forbes adds that the secret to winning the series is getting off to a good start and never before has he seen his side win the first three events.
Meanwhile, Fiji 7s coach Joe Savou said that defending their title in San Diego will be hard but the boys are prepared to take it to the next level.
The San Diego tournament kicks off on Sunday with Fiji's first game at 8.12 in the morning against Australia.
Then Fiji takes on West Indies at 11.18, and their last game is at 2.46 in the afternoon against Samoa.
