New South Wales are one step closer to ending Queensland’s seven year State of Origin dominance, after winning game one by 14-6 last night.

Former Fiji Bati fullback Jarryd Hayne scored the first try just five minutes in the first half before centre Michael Jennings scored their second just before halftime.

Meanwhile, Blues captain Paul Gallen now faces a one week ban for his involvement in the scuffle, after being slugged with a grade two striking charge.

The second match between the Maroons and the Blues will be on the 26th of this month.
