The Native Land Trust Board is now working closely with the Fiji Sugar Co-operation in identifying and helping sugarcane farmers whose land leases are about to expire.

Newly appointed NLTB General Manager, Semi Tabakanalagi said that while they understand that sugar cane production in the country is decreasing yearly, as most land leases are expire, one has also to understand that there are procedures to be followed before any land leases are renewed.

Tabakanalagi said that if the tenant has paid his lease money well during the time he has used the land for, then it would be easy to renew the lease from the land owner’s point of view.
