The Native Lands Trust Board managed to recover around $6 million in outstanding land lease rental however the arrears are expected to increase again with renewals due from this month.
NLTB General Manager Alipate Qetaki said they were owed around $21 million in outstanding rent arrears since last year and it is difficult to recover the entire amount.
Qetaki added it is also costing NLTB money to try and recover the arrears.
The NLTB will now focus on recovering arrears pending for the last two years before they look into recovering money owed for more than three years.
