NGO Concerned About Children’s Safety
An NGO dedicated to the welfare of children, Save the Children Fiji, is calling on parents to exercise caution when it comes to creating any sort of anxiety that will affect their children both in the near future and in the long run.
This follows the alleged murder of Wendy Linda Singh by her husband Raymond Rajendra Singh, which according to investigators, believe resulted from an argument which their 4 year old son and 3 month old baby witnessed.
In a statement to Fijivillage, the organization said arguing in front of children will present a hard choice as the children will be torn as in the dispute, they will have to take sides even though they love both their parents. They added this will result in the children being emotionally and socially affected, having communication problems.
However, Save the Children said that if parents are not careful, the kids will be embarrassed by their parents outbursts, thinking of what their friends think of them and even at times may be scared to talk with their parents as they are afraid they might start another fight, as they may be blamed for the fight.
Save the Children also called on parents to be good examples to their children showing them that conflicts can be solved in a peaceful manner without violence.
