Two Political Parties have confirmed that they have disclosed their assets and liabilities today to the Registrar of Political Parties.

The National Federation Party said it today disclosed assets and liabilities of all its applicants, officials and of the Party itself as required under the decree before midday today.

The Social Democratic and Liberal Party officials also declared their assets and liabilities today to the Registrar of Political Parties.

This was confirmed by party official Ratu Isikeli Komaisavai.

We are still trying to get comments from the Fiji Labour Party.

Meanwhile, Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem said his office is expected to issue a statement in relation to the matter this weekend.

According to the Political Parties Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures Decree, the spouses and children of the applicants and executives also have to reveal their assets and liabilities.

They also have to provide information of the total income whether in Fiji or abroad, the source of such income, any business connections, any director-ships, any business transaction entered into by each of them and any gift received by each of them whether in Fiji or abroad.

This exempts gifts received in the normal course of events from close relatives or a gift received in accordance with custom in the course of traditional exchange of gifts or in the case of a gift given on behalf of the nation, if the gift is transferred to the government as soon as it is possible to do so without giving offence to the giver.

According to the decree, all these declarations will be published in the media and gazetted.
